Eaks, my heart got caught in my throat reading your blog about finances. I've hit the wall with mine, have joined a credit management program, and will soon have all my credit cards frozen for 5 years. Light at the end that tunnel. All of them will also be paid off in 5 years.

I swore I'd never follow my mom's footsteps with finances, and I did. But I mangaged to jump off the foot path before it's too late.

Just knowing I've taken this step has relieved me hugely.

You are so right, there is a massive healing financial gap that needs to occur, and it's damn icky to walk that territory. But walk it we must.

Hey, great idea. I can really relate to your post. Dh is pretty clueless too and our financial planning is non-existent :-O. Unfortunately I am following in my parent's footsteps and it's really hard seeing them be broke senior citizens. I've made little forays into reading about this but haven't gotten too far. Some of the work that I need to do is brain/thinking work (learning about money/finances/investment). Some of the work I need to do is bookkeeping (what??? you want me to track all of my expenses and income for months on end??? - they always want you to do that but I haven't been successful with it). Some of the work I need to do is emotional (Suze Orman has good pointers on that but I didn't actually follow through on doing it). The book Your Money or Your Life is very inspiring but the actual financial advice is dated and I'm not sure that as a family we are willing to commit to a radical simplification of our lives (i.e. not spending money). - Ks.

My ust read money books is "The Energy of Money". It's really great for healing all that past money history.

wow, how incredibly exciting, thanks laureen for inspiring this amazing journey...and i'd never gotten it before to give myself a break for just being financially illiterate, awesome! i also LOVE the idea of passing on a legacy of financial health to the kids, have been wondering how to do that for a while (me no speak greek but wanna teach greek to baby, me scratching head...)

hooray for such a leader mama in our midst! and i am trying so hard to not make any jokes about how The Gap has so much money already from me, I've been financing them for years...oh yeah, you're not talking about my jeans...
