Sunday, we decided we needed some mooring practice. As in, we hadn’t, and hey, you moor under power, not under sail, thus making the perfect activity for folks whose mainsail is still at the shop. And since Angel Island is the closest local mooring spot, that made it the default target.
Miss Aurora, just starting [...]

I realized not too long ago that I’ve been pregnant pretty much the whole time we’ve owned the boat. And as you may or may not know, pregnant women are not generally the most physical. I stopped being able to fit my belly behind the helm around six months. My center of gravity and [...]

A few weeks back, I got an email forwarded from the Berkeley Parents’ Network, from a woman whose family was considering a move like ours, looking for some practical, BTDT advice about making the big leap. We chatted back and forth, and set up a day to have them come sailing.
Unlike our previous adventure [...]

Not that it surprises much of anybody, but now that the sun is out again, the social scene here at the Marina is hopping. People love a good bonfire and BBQ, and the marina has a great little tree-and-bench-ringed fire pit, three BBQs, and power access from the “facilities” (the bath and laundry house) nearby. [...]

My friend Carla, of Motorcycle Misadventures, is launching a radio show. Check it out:
For years and years many of you have been sending me emails headed Dear Miss Adventuring so I’ve finally taken you up on it and embraced the title. The Miss Adventuring Show on BlogTalkRadio.com is the first step.
The goal of the [...]

We’re watching Pirates of the Caribbean 3, and as usual, we’re all entranced, and I’m doing a running commentary on what’s sorta accurate, what’s utterly bogus (like the scene where three ships right next to each other, the one in the middle going opposite direction, all have wind fully in their sails). And Jason, who’s [...]

Yesterday started out pure suckage.
Short form, I had a ton of unpleasant, bureaucratic, paperwork-related tasks in my queue. And I am wrestling with a cold. And pregnancy nausea (the fool who called it “morning sickness” should be taken out and shot). And it was just looking like a lousy day all the way around.
And [...]

Saturday, I was given the opportunity to crew with my friend Patrick on one of OCSC’s little training J/24s, for a nice, no-hassle day sail around the Bay. He was going to bringing not only his friend Missy, but another one of his signature fabulous lunches, so I leapt at the opportunity. Pleasantly, the [...]

Meanwhile, back in Puerto Rico, a comment I made to Marc stuck. We were talking about how the boys were steadily acting out more and more, and I mentioned that no one had asked them to come, no one had gotten their permission to drag them on airplanes, on boats, back and forth on docks, [...]

Gotta tell ya, folks, nothing, but nothing, sucks as bad as being a boat on the hard.
I mean, boats, they’re magic. They are creatures of the water. And just like all other water creatures, they’re sort of weird and awkward and in danger of suffocating when forced to be on land for any length of [...]

Here begins our tale, of the adventures of TeamHudson. Many of you will have landed here from my other blog, ElementalMom. That blog is more for musings, tirades, discussions of motherhood and politics and discovery. This blog, however, is a completely different story. This is the tale of our family, making one of the biggest [...]
