Girl Driving
I realized not too long ago that I’ve been pregnant pretty much the whole time we’ve owned the boat. And as you may or may not know, pregnant women are not generally the most physical. I stopped being able to fit my belly behind the helm around six months. My center of gravity and depth perception has been off all along, and Jason has done 100% of the boat driving, for which I’ve been really grateful.
But, now I’ve had my baby (post on that coming soon), and I can get back to being competent. So a few days ago, I’d driven to the pumpout. So, undocked us, maneuvered up the tiny channel past the seawall, around the corner, up to pumpout, redocked, done the deed (ugh!) and then we were driving back down the fairway. Huge fairway, right? Straight line, right? No biggie.
A fishing boat was coming in from a morning out terrorizing the marine life. Three guys in the boat, and they are staring at me. As we pass, I wave, and none of them wave back. Huh. Whatever. So our transoms pass, and I hear one guy say, "that was a girl driving that boat!" and another one contine on to exclaim "and she had a baby on her back!" I shouted over my shoulder "seven weeks old and born on this boat!" and they all started cheering.
HA!
That is an *awesome* story!
Go Girls! Go
That is so cool! I love the picture at the top of your blog… it is so serene and I can just see you cruising around in your boat!
Maybe it’s the fact that I am fresh from reading your “Milk & Love 2″ post over on Elemental Mom (*blushing over being a favorite Jessica! Tee hee!), but this post made me start tearing up!!! Aaah, postpartum hormones are the best!
(Oh, and you’ll have to show me how you get Aurora on your back. Theo’s pushing 14lbs at 3 months, and I’m desperate to move him off my frontside!)
xox
you’ve gotta get a picture of that up here.
and, omg, i can’t believe she’s that old already!!
