The 11th Dumbest Moment in Business This Year
http://money.cnn.com/galleries/2007/fortune/0712/gallery.101_dumbest.fortune/11.html
“Fortune chose the absolutely dumbest of the dumb that the gods of fate and humor delivered into our laps - and yours - this past year.” And Captain John J. Cota’s unbelievably minimalistic “I touched the delta tower” made it to number 11. Way to go.
Course, me ‘n mine are still raging about the whole thing. There was another round of “cleanup” — a euphemism for “rub the yuck around and hope that it sinks so people won’t notice” — here in the Marina last weekend, with the result being a lovely rainbow sheen of crap so toxic that the little clear jellyfish that drifted in *melted* when they touched the stuff on the surface.
I wonder how long we’ll be dealing with this?
What struck me when I saw the plot course for this idiot was how much it resembled a story we have here in the PNW about a large power boat owner. The owner/pilot but his boat on a course for a channel bouy about some 10 NM away and then went below for coffee, paper, whatever. Lo and behold - proving the accuracy of both his charting system and the GPS — the boat runs up on the bouy, holing the damn thing and promptly sinking the multi million dollar toy. It looks like some idiot programmed in “Bay Bridge tower” as a way point and then walked off to the crapper.
